The Light Phone is a sleek, credit card sized un-smartphone designed for when you want to step away from the dings, pings and rings of the internet without being completely off-grid. Â Just like how you have different shoes for different occasions, the Light Phone is for when you need to “go light” and don’t have the space or need for your do-everything phablet.
It doesn’t text, use wifi, bluetooth, download music or take photos. Â It doesn’t even have colors – only a single well defined purpose: to make and receive calls. Â This isn’t due to cheapness or necessity because of its size, but instead is part of the driving manifesto of the company. Â In their words:
Our phones have become our nervous habit, our invisible crutch. We find ourselves reaching for them without thinking. We love their illusion of productivity & stimulation that is socially acceptable to abuse. Multitasking is a myth, it is addictive and exhausting. It is glorified procrastination. When we consume so fast, there is no way for us to appreciate anything, and appreciation gives our lives meaning & purpose.
The phone works via a quick initial setup process that uses the call forwarding feature on your existing smartphone. Â This allows the device to use your existing phone number for outbound calls, although the Light Phone is also capable of working independently from your current plan.
Weighing a paltry 1.4oz and having roughly the same dimensions as a credit card, the Light Phone easily stashes into wallets, pockets and utility belts without even being noticed.  The sleek, buttonless face displays only a dial-pad and the time.  Up to 9 contacts can be assigned via the desktop app during setup.
The Light Phone is available in either black or white for the current price of $125 at thelightphone.com.
